From Take Paws blog: "While you’re on the Illinois side of the river, head north to Chouteau Island and walk across Chain of Rocks Bridge, which takes its name from a rocky ledge in the Mississippi called, you guessed it, the Chain of Rocks. Originally opened to traffic in 1929, the bridge was a significant landmark for travelers driving the famous Route 66. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, the bridge is now a pedestrian and bikeway, connecting more than 300 miles of trails on both sides of the river."
