Maine and blueberries go hand in hand and Washington County is the state’s largest producer of the delicious crop. Drive through the barrens during the summer and sight and smell is incredible. A thick carpet of blueberry plants covers the area. On warmer days the aroma of the ripening fruit is more than delicious. The largest stretches of the barrens are located off Route 1 in Cherryfield, Deblois, Columbia Falls, Epping, Centerville, and Jonesboro.
