Pennsylvania's capital was dedicated on Oct. 4, 1906, at which time Theodore Roosevlet said, This is the handsomest building I ever saw. The Capitol's centerpiece is a spectacular 252-foot, 52 million-pound dome inspired by Michalangelo's design for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Surrounding the capitol are acres of landscaped grounds and gardens with a fantastic central fountain. Well behaved, leashed pets are welcome on the grounds, but not in the buildings.
