At the time George Washington provisioned this land to his nephew, Major Lawrence Lewis and his bride, Eleanor Curtis Lewis, the estate encompassed more than 2,000 acres. The main home was constructed between 1800 and 1805, and is a Federal-style home designed by the architect of th U.S. Capitol, Dr. William Thornton. Well behaved, leashed pets are welcome on the grounds, but are not allowed in the buildings.
