This park exists to protect the riparian forest that runs along the Stanislaus River. It offers camping and other recreational activities. However, dogs are restricted in where they can go.

Dogs must be kept on a six-foot maximum leash and in a tent or enclosed vehicle at night. Except for service animals, dogs are not allowed on trails or beaches.
