In the summer of 1882, American Impressionist painter J. Alden Weir boarded a train from New York bound for his modest farm among rolling hills in Branchville, Connecticut. Far from the commotion of the city, Weir and his family transformed their summer retreat into a creative refuge for friends and fellow artists. Today, the 60-acre National Historic Site preserves not only the homes, studios and barns of the farm, but also the rolling hills, fields, and distinctive stone walls that still inspire visitors and painters today. Leashed pets are permitted in the park, but are not allowed in the buildings. Leashes must be no longer than six feet.
