Fort Moultrie is a unit of Fort Sumter National Monument and was the first fort on Sullivan's Island. The fort was incomplete when it was attacked by the Brittish on June 28, 1776. After a nine-hour battle, the ships were forced to retire, saving Charleston from capture.
Leashed pets are permitted in the park, but are not allowed in the buildings or the fort and cannot be left unattended. Leashes must be no longer than six feet.
