We first visited Duluth in August 2008. Two weeks ago, we again found ourselves in the city. We put ourselves on hold for a few days because the weather was blessedly cool, we needed to add pet friendly content to the web site, and the laundry bag was bursting at the seams. And I am happy to report that Duluth’s dog friendly Lakewalk remains one of the most liberal we’ve seen anywhere.

Sniffing Around

Duluth sits on the western tip of Lake Superior and is nicknamed “The Air-Conditioned City” for the cooling effect that the lake has on it during the summer months (daytime temps average in the 70s). Duluth and next door neighbor Superior, Wisconsin (the Twin Ports) are the world’s largest inland port and one of the most important ports on the Great Lakes.

What We Did

Did you read my introduction? We worked on our web site and did laundry.

Okay. We also may have spent some time on the waterfront with Ty and Buster. Let’s see some pictures of what you and your dog can do on Duluth’s Lakewalk – ALL OF WHICH IS PET FRIENDLY. And by the way, there are several pet friendly restaurants in Canal Park with outdoor seating for four-legged patrons if you want to catch a bite before or after your walk.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Lakehead Boat Basin. It’s a combination marina and RV park, something I’m finding not to be unusual in the course of our travels. The big plus was the location, only a few blocks from the Canal Park area and downtown. No car needed!

Next Time

I would like to visit the Great Lakes Aquarium, the only fresh water aquarium in the US. It’s not pet friendly, but it’s still something I want to see.
