Best Time To Visit
Galveston’s shoulder seasons run from March to April and from October to November. During those months, temperatures are moderate and accommodations are more reasonably priced.
You’ll also find great lodging rates during the winter. But with daytime temperatures averaging in the low 60s F, the beach is a little nippy—unless you’re wearing a fur coat.
Summer, of course, can get crowded, lodging is more expensive, and temperatures average in the upper 80s with high humidity. Sea breezes help but the air still feels muggy.
Things Not To Miss
Architecture buffs will enjoy strolling "The Strand," the heart of Galveston and a National Historic Landmark. You’ll find 19th century architecture, shops, dining, museums, and nightlife.
It’s especially attractive at night when the streets are lit by gas lamps. And the pavement is cooler for pet paws.
You can find the pier by spotting the masts of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa against the sky. View the Galveston Channel from Saengerfest Park. And don’t forget to look for dolphins breaching the water’s surface. You’ll also find a number of waterfront, dog friendly patios.
Of course, your dog will probably be ready to hit the beach after padding around town. Dogs on leash are welcome year-round on Galveston’s beaches. Or explore the waterfront without getting sand in your paws by strolling the seawall. At 10.3 miles, this is one of the world’s longest, continuous sidewalks.
