This gorgeous oceanfront, dog-friendly Depoe Bay vacation rental is a whale-watcher's dream! With a charming vintage style, an unbeatable location on a clifftop overlooking the sea, and all the comforts of home, this beautiful house will help you create truly unforgettable vacation memories with your loved ones.
Located just on the south side of Depoe Bay, this home is nestled on the rocky coastline overlooking the sea. Depoe Bay has a rocky shore, though several fantastic beaches are within a 10-minute drive away, including Devils Punch Bowl to the south, plus Fogarty Creek and the sandy shores of Lincoln Beach and Gleneden Beach to the north.
As you drive up to this welcoming, brightly colored home, you will feel an atmosphere of history. This home was built in 1937, and inside you will see many fascinating antiques from the same era that give the house extra charm.
Walk past the planters and through the front door to find yourself in a bright and inviting space. Large picture windows let in plenty of sunshine and allow front-row seats to the views of the sea. A gas fireplace keeps the space extra warm and cozy. A living room has several places to sit and chat, gaze out the windows, or watch some TV. Though the views will provide plenty of entertainment, while you're here you will also have WiFi access, cable TV, a DVD player and selection of DVDs, board games, and a huge library of books to keep everyone busy.
The cook in your group will be pleased to find a full kitchen, complete with all major appliances and even some fun extras including a French press, blender, mixer, and slow cooker. Just next to the kitchen is a dining table and a room that also has a lovely windowseat where you could sit and read a good book. This first floor also has a full bathroom that features a tub/shower combination. There's even a large laundry room, which will surely come in handy at some point during your stay!
One of the three bedrooms is also on this main floor. Boasting a soft and warm queen-size bed, an antique style, and a sitting area where you can relax and gaze out to sea, this room will make you feel right at home. Walk upstairs to find the remaining two bedrooms and one more bathroom.
Once you're upstairs, stroll into the master bedroom to find an enormous space with a luxuriously large king-size bed, a TV, huge picture windows that allow fantastic views of the scenery, and a door leading to this level's full bathroom. This bathroom, also accessible from the hallway, offers a stand-up shower. The final bedroom has a lovely queen-size bed, another television, windows that look out over the sea, and a small balcony that looks north over the town of Depoe Bay.
This upper level balcony is an ideal place to watch for the harbor seals and sea lions that live nearby and commonly visit the bay to play and watch the humans. Since Depoe Bay is known as the whale-watching capital of the coast, you will want to watch carefully for any signs of blowspouts, fins, or even an occasional pod of whales traveling along the shore (peak whale-watching season is October through May of each year).
The downstairs living room and its enormous windows would also be a fantastic place to do a little storm-watching while nestled up on the sofas with a fire flickering in the hearth. You could even enjoy a jaw-droppingly beautiful sunset from the comfort of your own living room. With three bedrooms and an additional sofabed in the living room, this home can accommodate up to eight guests (six adults maximum, please), so bring the whole family or a group of special friends to spend an unforgettable beach vacation together. You're even welcome to bring your furry friends with you (up to two dogs), though please note that an additional nightly fee applies.
Depoe Bay may be a small town, but it has no shortage of charm and fun activities to offer visitors! Head just north into the center of town and visit the Whale Watching Center and get some tips on how to spot some marine life, or book a spot on one of the many whale-watching tours or oceanfishing charters that leave from the bay. In fact, this town boasts the smallest bay in the world, so be sure to walk down close to the harbor and watch the boats, or spot some of the seals that frequently visit looking for scraps from the fishermen.
In town you will want to stroll along the souvenir shops and try some saltwater taffy, get a seafood lunch at Tidal Raves or The Sea Hag, and walk over to the west side of the road and watch the waves crash against the rocky cliffs. If you feel like a trip to the beach, you could drive north a few minutes to Fogarty Creek, south about 10 minutes to the wonderful Devils Punch Bowl State Park, or north into a nearby town for easy access to the sand. The primarily residential Lincoln Beach and Gleneden Beach are just about 10 minutes north by car, though of course you could keep driving a few more minutes to get to the bustling Lincoln City!
In Lincoln City you will find everything you could need, including a huge variety of eateries, plenty of shopping, golf courses, a casino, and a miles-long stretch of beautiful beach. Go ahead and spend a day exploring the city, because it has plenty to offer! If you feel like heading south along the highway instead, in just 15 minutes you can get to Newport, which offers a famous aquarium, antique shops, and a charming atmosphere. Whether you stay right here in Depoe Bay or explore the rest of the coast, you will have plenty of ways to have fun here!
Come stay at this historic oceanfront Central Oregon Coast vacation rental and enjoy a seaside getaway spent watching for whales and relaxing in this lovely house!
