Treat a loved one or a few best friends to a coastal getaway they won’t soon forget at the Sea Mist Cottage. A dog-friendly Yachats vacation rental, this adorable abode boasts ocean views, nearby recreation, and plenty of quaint coastal charm in an uncrowded location.
Just steps away from one of the best stretches of the Central Oregon Coast’s sandy shoreline, this home is perfectly situated for a weekend of beach-themed adventures or exploring in nearby Yachats (about eight miles north). Hike on the Giant Spruce Trail, wade through tide pools, and snap gorgeous pictures at Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, then head into town to browse local art at Wave Gallery or Earthworks Gallery, and pick up fresh produce at the Yachats Farmers’ Market.
Enter into the home to find a warm and inviting space with wood beam ceilings, maritime decor, and comfortable seating. You’ll certainly admire the care that has gone into creating a vibrant coastal ambiance. Tin backsplashes, wooden paddles, and wood-paneled walls appoint the space with a vibrant coastal character, which will both relax and invigorate all travelers.
Settle into the leather chair or upholstered couch and let the picture windows’ panoramic seaside views melt away any lingering stress. If you want a close-up of the coast, peer through the telescope and watch distant thundering waves or keep an eye out for whales.
You’ve worked hard all week, so kick up your feet and relax. Pick out a movie from the DVD library and invite your group to gather in the living area for an afternoon of movie-watching thanks to the DVD player and the flatscreen TV - though there is no cable, you can use the WiFi to stream shows and movies. You could also take out a fun board game to play with your group, or crack open a favorite beverage and enjoy it while breathing in fresh air on the outdoor deck.
When it comes time to eat, head into the well-stocked kitchen to whip up fantastic meals with locally sourced ingredients. Make Dungeness crab cakes, sauté wild mushrooms, or serve up any other fare using modern appliances, plenty of cookware, and ample countertops. Eat together at the two-seat dining table where you'll also enjoy sweeping coastline views while you dine. In the mood for a barbecue? Use the gas grill and savor a meal outdoors if the weather permits.
Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll around the quaint neighborhood, or walk down to the beach to hunt for razor clams deposited by the surf. With a small daily fee, your dogs could even come, so leash them up and bring them along on your Yachats adventures.
Come home after a full day of sightseeing in town and on the coast, ready for restful sleep. Two guests are accommodated on a queen bed in the only bedroom, and a sofabed adds space for two more, making this home comfortable for up to four guests. A peaceful and quiet space, the bedroom offers simple furnishings and lovely picture window views that will rejuvenate all who stay here.
Wake up after a great night’s sleep, ready for new adventures. Start the day with a trip to any of the area’s state parks, including Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, Yachats State Park, and Smelt Sands State Park, which are all within a short drive. Adventure options include scenic trail hikes through old-growth coastal forest, horseback riding, and even boogie boarding in the sea! Seal Point Trail is 200 yards south of the house, and Stonefield Beach (known as one of the best places for agate hunting) is nearby.
In the mood for a fun day trip? Sightsee in Newport, which lies 30 miles north, or head a couple miles south to explore the iconic Heceta Head Lighthouse. Kids will love a trip to Newport's Oregon Coast Aquarium to view barking sea lions, playful penguins, and other coastal creatures, while older tastes are well rewarded with a stop at The Wine Place for a glass of fine Oregon pinot.
Yachats itself might seem small, but there's plenty to do right here in town! Check out the shops for souvenirs then chat with some locals at Green Salmon Cafe. Grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants, or try your hand at fishing or crabbing to nearby catch your own meal. The coastline surrounding Yachats is some of the state's finest for beachcombing and tide pool hunting, and if you're lucky you might see a migrating whale, so don't be afraid to get out and explore the beach - you never know what adventures you'll find!
